“He’s been a really good fit for us,” Zaidi told Tolbert and Copeland. “When you talk about a starting pitcher, which to me, since he came back from the injured list, I think he’s been the best starting pitcher in baseball in that span. You look at the numbers and it’s an objective case. It’s not even really my opinion.”
“I think he’s become more comfortable here. He’s kind of connected to the fans, connected to the team. So he’s happy. His acting is known for taking things in the offseason. That’s not a comment or a criticism. It’s just the way things are. And I think he realizes that there’s going to be a healthy market for him. We have some young guys, we have other guys in the starting lineup, but everybody could use Blake Snell at the top of the starting lineup.
“So I'm sure we'll have that conversation at some point. I think we're all focused on qualifying for the playoffs right now. But it's good to know that he's comfortable and seems very happy here.”
Snell has been virtually unhittable since returning from the injured list on July 9 — he's thrown No-hitter game against the Cincinnati Reds On August 2 – Recorded a 0.99 ERA, while allowing 14 hits and Multiply 60 by 45 1/3 rounds More than seven starts.
The left-handed outfielder has lived up to his nickname of “second-half Snell,” and based on the way he's been playing, it's a safe bet that he'll opt to go out and test the free-agent market this offseason.
Snell did not get the long-term contract he was expecting in the last transfer window, so he may try again this winter.
Zaidi and the Giants will likely hope to keep Snell beyond this season, but given how well the left-handed pitcher is throwing right now, along with his agent, San Francisco should expect to face competition to sign the 31-year-old.
