Islamabad: PakistanPrime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed to the US President Joe Biden He said on Sunday that his country is ready to work with the United States “on the common goals of international peace and regional security.”
Sharif was responding to Biden’s letter on Friday, in which the latter, departing from his previous position of not communicating with Pakistani leaders, assured him of Washington’s support for Islamabad to confront “the most pressing global and regional challenges.” After allegations of election fraud, the US government is ready to work with the new Pakistani government. In the letter, Biden did not congratulate Sharif on assuming responsibility or on his election victory.
Interestingly, the US President did not communicate with Imran Khan, the jailed former Prime Minister, when he assumed office in January 2021.
Responding to Biden's letter, Sharif, according to the Prime Minister's Office, said that Pakistan is ready to work with the United States to achieve a common goal of global peace and security, development and prosperity in the region.
He said that Pakistan attaches “great importance” to its relations with the United States, adding that the two countries are working together on important initiatives related to the sectors of energy, climate change, agriculture, health and education.
Shahbaz welcomed cooperation in the energy sector and the Green Alliance Framework initiative between the two countries.
In his message, the US President specifically mentioned the Green Alliance Initiative, saying that his administration would continue to work with Pakistan to improve the environment. Biden also spoke about sustainable agricultural development, water management and recovery from the devastating effects of the 2022 floods in Pakistan.
Pakistan appears to no longer be a priority for the United States after its withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, but the South Asian country, according to observers, remains vital for Washington in terms of… Regional security and counter-terrorism efforts.
