Singer Mariah Carey confirmed in a statement to CBS News on Monday that her mother and sister died over the weekend.
The 55-year-old singer did not specify how or on what day her mother and sister died.
“My heart is broken because I lost my mom last weekend,” Carrie said. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life that same day. I am so grateful that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.”

Carrie had a strained relationship with her sister, Allison, diverse Carey reportedly wrote in her memoir that it was “better for me emotionally and physically to have no contact” with Allison and her brother Morgan.
