Lando Norris won the Dutch Formula 1 Grand Prix, sailing to victory in a race that saw his McLaren and Australian Oscar Piastri outclass the rest of the drivers.

Piastri finished fourth after briefly leading the race before pitting and ceding control to Norris.

Defending champion and local hope Max Verstappen, who finished second for Red Bull, could do little to counter the McLaren pace.

Verstappen's superiority was only prevented by dogged driving from Scuderia Ferrari's Charles Leclerc – who thwarted Piastri lap after lap and stopped the Australian from moving up to third – from being caught between the two faster McLarens.

Norris finished the race 22.8 seconds ahead of championship leader Verstappen, ending the three-time world champion's unbeaten home record.

It was the first time since the race returned to the calendar in 2021 that Verstappen did not take a win at Zandvoort, and the loss also extended his losing streak this season to five races.

The gap between Verstappen and Norris in the drivers' championship has been reduced to 70 points after 15 of the 24 rounds, while McLaren has reduced the gap to an increasingly weak Red Bull in the constructors' championship to 30 points.

“It's an amazing feeling,” said Norris, who took his first win in Miami in May. “I wouldn't say it was a perfect race because of the first lap again, but it was beautiful anyway.”

“The pace was strong, the car was amazing. I was able to push hard and pass Max. It was a straight race. Tough but fun.”
