He also told them that representing a bigger club could increase his brand and marketability. Petracca's representatives denied that personal brand issues had any influence on his decision-making.
Petracca was seriously injured when Collingwood captain Darcy Moore accidentally kneed him on King's Day, fracturing his ribs, puncturing his lung and rupturing his spleen.
These injuries left him fighting for his life, and he has since shared details of the horrific surgery from which he recovered in the intensive care unit.

Goodwin, chief executive Gary Burt and head of football Alan Richardson have fiercely defended the club's culture, both privately and publicly.
But Petracca expressed frustration over previous off-field issues including the club's treatment of Clayton Oliver and the controversy surrounding team-mate Joel Smith, who is facing a two-year ban and remains provisionally suspended after testing positive for cocaine following the club's round 23 match against Hawthorn last year.
However, there are frustrations with Petraca as well.
Several players expressed disappointment with Petracca's level of activity on social media while on holiday in Noosa, when the Devils were fighting to stay in finals contention.

Carlton remains an interested party in the evolving situation in Petraca.
Any potential deal involving a player under contract with the Blues will be put on hold as the team prepares for the elimination final against the Brisbane Lions next Saturday, according to two club sources who are not prepared to discuss the issue publicly.
But the club has raised internally the importance of Petraca's availability and has expressed a willingness to act forcefully to secure a deal.
