Coach Evan Cleary praised the Fox sisters for spending time with his group of players, who need to find their will to win — and fast.

“Jess and Nomai are proud Penrith girls,” said Clary. “It was wonderful for them to give up their time to come and speak to our young people and share their experiences – not only during the last Olympics, but also before.

“There's always adversity in what we do as sports people, and we're definitely in that little bit of a phase right now where maybe we're not playing as well as we'd like to.

“I absolutely believe we can.” [still] We can win it, but we have to decide whether we are willing to pay that price to win it.

“At the moment, there is probably a question mark over that. At the moment, we are not playing as we would like to, not as we need to.

“At the weekend we didn’t play at our best. We were outplayed, which can happen from time to time. I know we have enough work behind us this season to be able to challenge.

But there were periods in the Storm game [last Thursday week]and the games leading up to it, especially at the weekend. I think it's fair to ask whether we're prepared to pay that price.

“If you want to go the whole distance, it's not easy, and you have to pay a very high price along the way.”

Clary said the Panthers lost a game to Parramatta at a similar late stage of the season last year and that proved a good “wake-up call”.

Nathan Cleary was spotted completing some passing drills early on Monday with his rehab group and remains on track to return from a shoulder injury suffered in the first week of the finals, but substitute half Jack Cole's season is all but over after he became the victim of a heavy hip tackle in the NSW Cup on Saturday night.
