MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie resident was arrested Friday evening after he opened fire on a group of people, hitting one in the shoulder.
Anton Lamonte Harris Sr., 49, was being held in the Delaware County Jail Saturday on $20,000 bail, on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a dangerous violent felon and pointing a firearm.
According to a written statement, city police responded early Friday evening to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
Witnesses said a man – later identified as Harris – “started the altercation by waving a gun and yelling at people.”
Two witnesses — who said Harris, whom they did not know, pointed a gun at them and “threatened to kill everyone” — told police they retrieved firearms from their cars after Harris began firing his gun, and returned fire.

The man who was shot was taken by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Harris reportedly ran to nearby McCulloch Park. He was arrested a short time later, and officers reported finding a gun nearby.
The Delaware County District Attorney's Office will determine what formal charges may be brought.
At the time of his latest arrest, Harris was awaiting trial on six counts filed against him in two cases pending in Delaware's Fifth Circuit Court — assault resulting in moderate bodily injury, domestic assault, domestic assault resulting in serious bodily injury, neglect of a dependent, and two counts of intimidation.
His trial in those cases is scheduled to begin next February.
Court records show that Harris, over the past 25 years, has been convicted of crimes including aiding a criminal, driving under the influence, driving while suspended, cocaine possession, resisting law enforcement and theft.
