The Action News Jax First Alert Weather Team has declared a First Weather Alert Day due to a strong cold front bringing heavy rain to our area.

This advisory is in effect from 7am to 5pm across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.

Updated 5:56 AM- A Tornado Watch has been issued for all southeast Georgia, Baker and Columbia counties until 1 p.m

First Alert Meteorologist Garrett Bedenbaugh said a strong cold front will arrive later Wednesday morning just after the morning commute turns around.

The potential for heavy rain and rain ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 inches across our region, but places with isolated showers could have more than that.

There will also be consolidated thunderstorms, some of which may be strong or severe with gusty winds of 40 to 60 mph, heavy rain, lightning, small hail and an isolated tornado.

Rain and storms will move from the northwest to the southeast, clearing the area by early afternoon. Based on the latest forecast, storm arrival times should be as follows:

  • Waycross to Lake City: 7am – 9am

  • Brunswick to Maclenny: 8am – 10am

  • Jacksonville to Middleburg: 10am – 11am

  • St. Augustine to Palatka: 11am – 12pm

The rain is expected to gradually ease later in the afternoon with dry and cool weather until Thursday morning.
