A French man who tried to stop a killer from harming more people in a Sydney mall has reportedly been granted Australian citizenship Sky Newsthe independent And Associated Press.

“We just saw it coming, and we were thinking: 'We need to try to stop it,'” Girrott told Australian television network Seven News, according to Sky News. “We tried to throw the barrier. We really wanted to stop it.”
The two then led police inspector Amy Scott to the attacker, and Cauchi lunged at her with the blade. Scott then shot him. Cauchi was treated by paramedics, but was not revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. The police said.

After the attack, Guerot told Australian news networks that he was in the country on a work visa, which was due to expire in the next two months.
Upon hearing of Gerot's upcoming visa expiration, his lawyer, Belinda Robinson, started a petition demanding that he be granted citizenship, according to Sky News.

Robinson confirmed with SBS News Geurot will be granted permanent residency and is now awaiting official documents.
“He received a phone call from Immigration and the Prime Minister said he couldn't grant him citizenship, but we would grant him permanent residency,” Robinson told SBS News. “We're just waiting to hear back when it becomes official.”

French President Emmanuel Macron praised the two Frenchmen in a post dated X (formerly known as Twitter) On Tuesday, April 16th.
“Our condolences to the Australians who were injured in the attack in a shopping center in Sydney on Saturday. Two of our compatriots acted like true heroes. Very great pride and appreciation,” read Macron's post.
