In the latest summer trend, it turns out that many people are heading to Boston.
Boston is one of the best cities to travel on Labor Day, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA).
AAA, a nonprofit organization of automobile clubs, is the largest leisure travel organization in North America. Its Labor Day travel trends forecast is based on booking data for the period Thursday, August 29, through Monday, September 2, this year, as well as booking data for the same period last year.
Among the top 10 domestic destinations for Labor Day, Boston came in fifth, beating out cities like Chicago and Las Vegas. According to AAA data, tourist attractions are among the most popular reasons to travel, adding to Boston’s appeal because of its rich history.

According to AAA, domestic weekend travel is up 9% compared to last year, and the cost of domestic travel is down 2%. The most popular type of travel is Alaska cruises, which explains Anchorage and Juneau’s places on the list.
For road travelers, gas costs are about $0.30 per gallon less than last year. AAA predicts the best times to drive are before 11 a.m. on Aug. 29, before noon on Aug. 30 and Sept. 1, after noon on Aug. 31, before 10 a.m. on Sept. 2 and after 1 p.m. on Sept. 3.
International travel, especially to European cities, is also very popular during the Labour Day holiday, although it is down 4% compared to 2023. Vancouver tops the list of international travel destinations.
