Former Conservative Judge J Michael Luttig Both were approved. Kamala Harris Luttig said former President Donald Trump is a threat to democracy. He said his political differences with Kamala Harris’s party don’t matter in this election because Donald Trump is “totally unfit.” In a statement seen by CNN, Luttig, a veteran of two Republican administrations, wrote that there is only one candidate in this election who can claim the mantle of defender and protector of American democracy.
“In the 2024 presidential election, there is only one political party and one presidential candidate who can claim the mantle of defender and protector of American democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law,” Luttig wrote. “As a result, I will vote without hesitation for the Democratic Party’s nominee for president of the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris.”

“In voting for Vice President Harris, I assume that her views on public policy differ significantly from mine, but I am indifferent in this election to her political views on any issues other than American democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law, as I believe all Americans should be,” the statement read.
“Because of the former president’s continued and false claims that he won the 2020 election, millions of Americans no longer have faith or trust in our national elections, and many will never again,” Luttig added. “Many Americans—especially younger Americans, unfortunately—are beginning to question whether constitutional democracy is the best form of self-government for America.”
“It is time for all Americans to stand up and affirm whether they believe in American democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law, and want the same for America — or whether they do not.”
This will be the first time Luttig has voted for a Democratic candidate, but he has already emerged as an outspoken critic of Trump after the Capitol riot.
Luttig joined Joe Walsh, Barbara Comstock, and Adam Kinzinger — prominent anti-Trump Republicans — in backing Kamala Harris.
