With a week to go until the highly anticipated ABC News showdown between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in which both camps review their strategies, Illinois' Democratic governor announced J.B. Pritzker Kamala Harris said it would be a mistake to underestimate Donald Trump. While Kamala Harris has great potential, she has to be careful with him and make her points steadily without getting overwhelmed by the arrogant Trump, the Democratic governor said, claiming that while the CNN debate between Trump and Biden is no longer valuable now that Biden has dropped out of the race, Trump arguably won that debate. The governor said he also won the debate against Hillary Clinton.
“We shouldn’t think that Kamala Harris has a greater ability to win a debate than Donald Trump,” Pritzker continued. “They will compete as important rivals with very different perspectives.”
Kamala Harris’s entry into the fray has changed the equations of the election, and now the race is very close between Harris and Donald Trump. The election campaign has become fierce, with Trump not hesitating to attack Kamala Harris and an active Democratic campaign responding in elegant style.
Frank Luntz, a pollster, said the debate will now be everything to voters. “When voters see the candidates side by side and listen to what they say, not just the answers, it’s the body language,” Luntz said. “Is there contempt? Does someone fold their arms? Are they looking at the individual when they’re speaking? Are they looking presidential in their manner?”
There were initial hurdles to the debate as Donald Trump did not want ABC to be the platform. Then the Kamala Harris campaign wanted to change the rules – they wanted it to be a sit-down debate with microphones. But ABC News refused the request, and from now on the debate will follow the same rules as the Biden-Trump debate on CNN.
