California Highway Patrol investigators arrested a former man Tuesday. Highway Authority Officer Charged With Workers' Compensation Fraud Two years ago when he was working for the state law enforcement agency.
The California Highway Patrol announced in a news release that Jordan Lester, 44, was arrested without incident in Quincy and booked into the Blooms County Jail. Lester has been with the agency for 16 years and was assigned to the California Highway Patrol's Quincy office.
The California Highway Patrol said Lester was arrested on suspicion of making a false statement to fraudulently obtain compensation, making a false statement regarding an insurance claim or benefit, concealing or failing to disclose an event affecting benefits, perjury, and making false statements to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.
Lester filed for workers’ compensation on July 12, 2021, and was suspended from work by his physician in January 2022. While he was away from work, CHP’s Workers’ Compensation Fraud Investigations Unit received an anonymous tip. This led CHP to begin its own investigation into Lester’s case.
The California Highway Patrol said the investigation revealed that Lester committed workers' compensation fraud by engaging in activities while on injury leave that conflicted with the restrictions and limitations imposed on him by his medical providers.
Investigators also discovered that Lester committed perjury and made false statements to the Department of Motor Vehicles when he provided false information about the purchase price of the vehicle he purchased, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP fraud investigators are based at the agency's headquarters in Sacramento, and the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office has obtained an arrest warrant for Lester.
“The California Highway Patrol wants to assure the public that it takes all allegations of employee misconduct seriously,” California Highway Patrol officials said in a news release. “When allegations of employee misconduct are suspected, the department takes prompt and appropriate action to investigate the allegations.”
