Boy Meets World actress Danielle Fishel has revealed she was recently diagnosed with cancer. breast cancer.

The 43-year-old actress, who shared the news on the latest episode of her show,Pod Meets World podcastShe said that “learning from others’ experiences” motivated her to share her diagnosis.

“I was recently diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a form of breast cancer. It’s very early stage, it’s technically stage zero,” Fishel said in the episode that aired on August 19.

The actress said she plans to have surgery to remove it.

“I've had to make a lot of decisions over the past couple of days,” she said, adding that she plans to tell only her immediate family and close friends, but no one else.

She said she changed her mind after reading author Glennon Doyle's work. Paraphrasing herself, Fishel said Doyle argues that “the place you can learn the most is at the beginning or messy middle of a story.”

Fishel said doctors caught DCIS early because she had a reminder on her phone to schedule her annual mammogram.

“I want to share this with you because I hope it encourages anyone to come in,” she said. “If it’s time for your appointment, if you haven’t had an appointment before, come in. And if you have to find out you have cancer, find out when it’s stage 0 if possible.”

Podcast hosts Rider Strong and Will Friedle, who starred in “Boy Meets World,” were among the first people to know about Fishel's diagnosis.

“We love you, and you know we’re here to help. Whatever you need, we’re here,” Friedel said. “You’re going to be okay, and you may have some tough days ahead, but we’re here for you.”
